Righteousness & Truth Are Not Optional

Many of you will have read the title and thought, well obviously. However, these days it’s unfortunately not obvious, even for bible-literate Christians, that doing the right thing, and acting truthfully and honourably, is part and parcel of being a Christian.

It’s our obligation in obedience to God.

Becoming a Christian in the first place means recognising that behaviour and standards that fall short of God’s law must be repented of, and discarded. But even after that, growth in godliness is commanded.

We are on a path to “becoming like HIM” [Romans 8:29] – not by human effort, but by surrendering to the activity of the indwelling HOLY Spirit.

Indeed, if that progress in right attitudes and behaviour is NOT seen, then something is wrong. As Jesus said, you can tell a tree by its fruit (that which it produces). If there is no fruit, or if there is bad fruit, then you can tell there is something amiss.

  • Luke 6:43-45 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.”
  • John 15:2 “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit”.

One Example

I want to present one recent example, one that shocked me.

I will begin by adding two riders to my comments: One, I KNOW that not everyone is like this and two, this is just an example I happened to see and in no way means I am supporting or endorsing this ministry.

In fact, I hardly know who he is, and a cursory glance at his website leaves me very cautious. So I am saying nothing about the man and his ministry at all, but using him as an example.

Probably I should add another, a third caution: the most important issue in this ‘prophecy’ and repentance, and the subsequent attack, is NOT the subject matter BUT the behaviour. I say this to stave off any knee-jerk reaction from readers.

Repentance and Forgiveness

Early in January I happened to see (in passing, without paying much attention) a post by a Christian Minister who repented of giving a false prophecy.

That is notable, in itself, because today’s “prophets” rarely do that. I was pleased to see a man who thought it right to repent, and to inform his ministry partners of his repentance, asking for forgiveness.

However, not long afterwards I saw another post, this time speaking of the aftermath of his repentance. This is what he said:

“Over the last 72 hours, I have received multiple death threats and thousands upon thousands of emails from Christians saying the nastiest and most vulgar things I have ever heard toward my family and ministry. I have been labelled a coward, sellout, a traitor to the Holy Spirit, and cussed out at least 500 times. We have lost ministry partners every hour and counting.

After publicly repenting on January 7th, (see it here https://cf.jeremiahjohnson.tv/jjm-apology-01-07-eub) I fully expected to be called a false prophet in some circles, but I could have never dreamed in my wildest imagination that so much satanic attack and witchcraft would come from charismatic/prophetic people. I have been flabbergasted at the barrage of continued conspiracy theories being sent every minute our way and the pure hatred being unleashed.

To my great heartache, I’m convinced parts of the prophetic/charismatic movement are far SICKER than I could have ever dreamed of. I truthfully never realized how absolutely triggered and ballistic thousands and thousands of saints get about Donald Trump. It’s terrifying! It’s full of idolatry!

If I helped to prop up this ideology concerning him, I will need to repent again and stir up even more hell.

On a personal level, I am just beyond relieved that President Trump was only an assignment for a season and never a mandate. Revival is never dependent upon who sits in the White House but rather who sits on the Throne in Heaven. I will continue to preach the Cross and the power of the resurrection. I will continue to help prepare the Bride to meet our Bridegroom.

As we head into 2021, expect me to be more committed to the gospel and making disciples than ever before. By God’s grace I will walk in a greater measure of humility and repentance than ever before.  I will learn from my mistakes and seek correction from Godly leaders always. I’m going to read the Sermon on the Mount now.” -Jeremiah Johnson

Briefly, his Facebook lists him as:

  • Host at The Watchman’s Corner Television Show
  • End time messenger at Jeremiah Johnson Ministries
  • Founder at Heart of the Father Ministry
  • Studied Church Ministries at Southeastern University
  • Lives in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Facebook followed by 61,242 people
  • His Website

For those who are interested, and haven’t clicked the link leading to JJ’s apology, part of it reads:

“My aim in this public apology is twofold. First, I would like to repent for inaccurately prophesying that Donald Trump would win a second term as the President of the United States. I refuse to blame the saints and say, “It didn’t come to pass because they did not pray enough.” Nor will I proclaim, “Donald Trump actually won, so I was right, but now it has been stolen from him.” I believe the first statement seeks to alleviate the prophetic messenger from the responsibility of what he prophesied, and the second statement is filled with potential pride and an unwillingness to humble himself and admit he was wrong. I want to go on record: “I was wrong, I am deeply sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness.”

As he so rightly says in his second post above, “Revival is never dependent upon who sits in the White House but rather who sits on the Throne in Heaven.” How many Christians believe that in their heart?

I say that as someone who doesn’t believe in the kind of global revival and world-changing alteration that many of the most prominent preachers today are working towards.

The Move to Triumphalism

Since the 80’s and increasingly from the 1990’s, evangelical belief changed in a radical way because of false teachings. The previous biblical belief in increasing darkness and wickedness before the End, as well as christian apostasy, was overthrown, and revivalism replaced it.

Pre-millennial rapturism was replaced by post-millennial triumphalism.

Perhaps that mistaken belief – in the overthrow of all evil and the establishment of a kind of theocracy on earth before the return of the Saviour – has fuelled much of the current desperation to install leaders who will support restorational evangelicalism of this kind and who will join the drive towards global awakening.

Throughout the past four years, preachers with far-reaching influence such as Kenneth Copeland, Rick Wiles, Paula White, Sid Roth, Mario Murilla, Kim Clement, Kris Vallotton, and many others have “prophesied” that we are on the verge of victory. So, when Donald Trump wasn’t reelected they refused to accept it. (What? Can your God not achieve his will without Trump?)

Here are just two reports of those who falsely prophesied Trump would be reelected, including Jeremiah Johnson – who as you have seen subsequently repented, with horrific results.

Trump’s continuing reign was, in their minds, all part of God’s plan to save the world. Thus, God has somehow been foiled by devilish evil powers.

They had consistently preached the same message in every TV program and on every stage for four years and were not about to be contradicted by the mere happenstance of a national election! Never mind Democracy, the Constitution nor the will of the American people, we HAVE to prove we were right! (The truth is, they were not, and thank God for contradicting them.)

Was Trump Elected by God?

You might be shocked when I say, yes he was. But hold your horses. I believe God’s will was accomplished in a different way to that normally believed.

God’s plan was to bring out into the open and to expose what was secretly in the heart of millions: in much of the professing Church, allegiance to this world and its ways has replaced the desire for God.

Democracy itself could not be allowed to stand in the way of theocracy, if they dare to conflict! The desire for, and belief in, a world-changing revival has become paramount, overriding every other concern. (Possibly because they see themselves as being the world rulers of the age to come? The Apostolic New World Order!!)

This powerful universal all-conquering Great Awakening is not like earlier revivals calling for individual repentance and biblical conversion. No, it’s the same kind of self-serving ‘faith’ seen in many charismatic churches today: power, personal advancement and fulfilment without regard to God’s will.

Some call it “The Storm”

Hunger for God is no longer a hunger for obedient and humble righteousness, but a hunger for entertainment, pleasure, promotion and supernatural powers regardless of biblical truth. The end of those things is seen as universal victory over evil, and the establishment of a ‘divine rule’ akin to the old Holy Roman Empire.

The Golden Calf of revival through political domination is now being worshipped in place of a God who calls for holiness, and self-sacrifice, and above all a humble willingness to accept God and his will alone.

The Bible or The Plan?

Thus, to return to the subject in hand, when one of their loyal prophets realises his mistake, thousands of wolves congregate to rip him to pieces regardless of the truth.

What is prized now is not truth, nor biblical standards, nor the will of God – but personal loyalty to “the plan” of world domination by ‘christian’ leaders who have ceased to be the Bride and have become the Harlot of Revelation.

  1. I very much agree with your article here, with exception to the very end. Bear with me please while I explain:

“What is prized now is not truth, nor biblical standards, nor the will of God – but personal loyalty to “the plan” of world domination by ‘christian’ leaders who have ceased to be the Bride and have become the Harlot of Revelation.”

No, these charlatans who are false professors following a false christ, never were the Bride of Christ to begin with. NOBODY whom is truly of the Bride, ceases to be the Bride. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing, tares growing among the wheat. Jesus will never lose a single one of His Own.

  2. “even for bible-literate Christians”…

I have to wonder what percentage of Christians are really bible-literate.
I started this year with a Bible reading challenge, to read the whole Bible in 28 days. Both my wife and I did it in 16 days.

However, when people heard about the challenge, I was astounded by the number of believers, many of whom have been Christians for decades, who admitted they had never read the Bible right through. Most had merely dipped into it here and there throughout their Christian lifetime – probably consistently, but none of them had taken the time to read Genesis – Revelation in a way that would give them an understanding of God’s overall agenda, and how it was being worked out.

It should therefore be NO surprise that so many sincere Christians get caught up and start to follow delusional paths, led by ‘prophets’ and various other ‘anointed’ men and women.

In recent weeks I’ve spent far too much time wading through the swamp of commenters on a variety of Trump worshipping ‘prophet’ sites. And the fruit is there to see, and what Jeremiah Johnson has reported in response to his apology is not surprising. I’ve even seen calls for armed insurrection – unchallenged by the celebrity prophets who own the sites. And these aren’t fringe ‘prophets’, but are well known in ‘prophetic’ circles being given as platform by people like Sid Roth and Copeland’s new Victory Channel.

    • Very good point. Some prophets (profits) have called Donald Trump “a man after God’s own heart”. So we are comparing him to KIng David at times as well. The “christian realm” in the west has been lead to a state of being sick and twisted. I think the churches and church leadership has a lot to answer on how it got to be this bad. There is a definite famine of hearing the real truth from the word of God preached. Those who sit in the pew have become lazy and complacent and look for something “easy” and appealing to follow and believe. Now that the dream of Trump as a savior is disappearing they curse and become extremely angry. Even angry at God. Where is the mind and heart of Christ in the churches today???? Maybe its time for judgement to begin the house of the Lord. (1 Peter 4:17-19) “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? {18} And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? {19} Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”

      • Yes, Donald Trump compared to King David, Moses, even Esther (for a time such as this). But maybe the one that (in my opinion) takes the blasphemy cake was the statement ‘Trump is Love’.

Personally, even before Trump won the Republican candidacy in 2016, I saw the possibility of him becoming president; chosen by God as a judgement on US evangelicals who had spent the previous 8 years propagating lies and hatred directed towards Obama.

They were given a president who reflected the characteristics they themselves had displayed.
Trump’s presidency was an opportunity to recognise and repent of those godless attitudes and behaviour – but instead, a majority doubled down and turned Trump into a golden calf to worship.

I suspect the vehement denial of his election loss acts as a further digging deeper into delusion. Judgement has already begun with the house of the Lord – there is a clear sifting, shaking, pruning going on.

  3. A post very much needed sister. Thank you for saying the things you do here. My wife has been trying to encourage those who call themselves Christians to wake up and stop putting faith in a man, in an institution, in a political party, in any man centered plan. But for the most part she gets ignored or attacked. I have tried to warn others myself to get “prepared” spiritually, mentally and any other way we have to for coming heavy persecution and trials. All I get in response is that “a recent word of prophecy is telling of revival in four years”, The church is no longer the church of Christ in far too many examples. You are correct. This is the signs of a harlot church and they will be ripe for the picking for any charismatic leader (Christian or not) who tells their “itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3-5) “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; {4} And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. {5} But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”. All Christians need to fall on our faces before God and repent heavily (in “sackcloth and ashes” as the bible talks about, if need be) (Matthew 11:20-24) “¶ Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: {21} Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. {22} But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. {23} And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. {24} But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.” While it is a good thing that some of those like Jeremiah Johnson and others are apologizing and hopefully repenting. There is one important point that needs to be made.
The word of God states over and over. That if a prophet prophesies and it is not of God and not true. Then that person in God’s eyes is a false prophet. They need to step down and remove themselves from any position of supposed “leadership” in the body of Christ. They can repent and God will forgive them. And we have to as well. But they should still suffer repercussions in the leadership positions in the body of Christ. Read Jeremiah 23: 16:32 as one source of this from the word of God. (Jeremiah 23:15-16) “Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land. {16} Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.”
(Jeremiah 23:31-32) “Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. {32} Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”
Jeremiah Johnson and others need to do the right thing and step down.
I am a Canadian and we have our own ballooning rule of evil here as well. So I am not criticizing Americans at all. If we are truly the Lords, we are all one in Christ. My heart breaks for Canada and for the U.S.. But we have to remember and start realizing in a deeper way. Our citizenship is in heaven. This world is evil, wicked and depraved. It will only change under the coming return of Jesus Christ and his authority and His government. We all need to repent, die to ourselves and surrender totally, totally to Christ alone. We need to hunger and thirst after God’s righteousness and His word. We need to cry out to God for forgiveness and get into daily, deep, meaningful fellowship with Him alone.
We need to make Christ and His word the treasure that we seek diligently for. We must hunger for Him and His word. In a sense we need to be like Jacob in Judges 15:8 who would not let go of the angel. He clung to the angel with all his might. We need to do that with our wonderful Savior and Lord as we never have before. He is our life and our salvation, our hope, our king, our deliverer, or closest friend. How could we ever do less.
